Medetain,
from Roller Hero Muteking...words cannot describe
how bizarre this show is; see it if you get a chance! This is a Popy Chogokin
toy (GB-27). On this one the canopy, sides and mouth open. It shoots ball-bearings
out of the open mouth, and a missile launcher can be fitted to one of the
open side panels. There is also a bag of tiny character figures.
Sky Zero (Chogokin GA-47) - he has red fists (spring-loaded of course) for the ends of his arms. Sky Zero's fists are in a special plastic package along with an alternate, shark-like head. The head is spring-loaded too. The silver panel on the front opens to reveal a little photo of brother number 1; in the show, the brothers' faces appear on video screens in the robots' heads. This Sky Zero toy is almost 100% die-cast, satisfyingly heavy, could be used as a weapon in a pinch.

Sky Zero's box. I'd like to have the matching Ground Zero
toy, if anybody out there has one...
...recently I found a Ground Zero but I can't afford it. Guess I just can't
swim with the big fish any more.
The brothers can also transform into these assault vehicles, Sky Jet and Grand Car:

These two are Popynika series PA-70 and PA-69 respectively. They were imported by Mattel as Shogun Action Vehicles.
You don't normally think of Tomy as a maker of character toys, but here's
one from Space Runaway Ideon.
This
toy is all plastic and stands about 10" high. It has flashing lights
inside, makes various space robot type noises, and has an impressive array
of projectiles, including a nasty pair of little chrome-plated meat cleavers
that spring out of the front of its feet. Note the left shoulder is open
to reveal a missile launcher.
This is one of my favorite mecha, the Orgroid from Orguss, made
by Takatoku. There were a zillion different Orguss toys made by
T.T. and I plan to put together an all-Orguss page one of these
days. At one time I wanted to collect them all but there's just too many
of 'em. By today's standards Orguss isn't a very impressive anime, but
I love to watch these old shows.
Here are the two Gerwalk Nikicks - MBG-24C on the left and MBG-24A on the
right. If there is an MBG-24B, I've never seen it. These three Orguss
toys are all 1/40 scale and stand about 8" high. Not a lot of metal
in them, but they are very well made and have quite intricate transformations.
