Trypilian 2-story model

The drawing shows the model is slightly damaged, with a part of its roof and side wall missing. This unique two-story terra cotta model of a building was unearthed south of Kyiv, at Roz-sokh-u-vat-ka (village), Ukraine. It is approx. 20m high and 30cm long (8 x 12 inches.)
(Drawn by Maria P. Wynnytska based on photos from the 1994 exhibit.)

The model shows large, wide entrances on both levels, a second-floor balcony along the front, two rooms on the second level, and large round "feet" indicating probable tree-trunk basis of its construction. In the upper back wall, there is a small, round opening (not seen in this drawing.) Actual two-storied buildings resembling this model have been excavated in several sites of the Trypilian culture.

While many archeologists call this a model of a dwelling, M.Gimbutas believes it represents a temple, based on her evaluation of the excavated contents of an actual, near identical full-scale Cucuteni building.
